Happy Miscellaneous Monday!
Miscellaneous Monday is when I share a past project that I found lying around the house or, well, whatever comes up!
It’s been about a month since my first ever niece was born. She is so beautiful and its quite a wonderful experience watching her grow. This past weekend my husband Luke and I got to babysit for the first time! It was only for a few hours but we were still a bit anxious. It went great though! No problems. (Go on brush your shoulders off.)
So while we watched her sleep (because thats all she does right now), I was thinking about how fun it was celebrating her homecoming.
My husband’s family has a bit of a track record for pulling pranks on happy couples that just hit life milestones. Usually its buying a first home or getting married, but my husband and I decided that a new baby was definitely worthy of a little fun celebration.
We’d heard of “forking” before, and a bunch of other infamous pranks, but I found one idea online that I really thought would be perfect – using stencils and flour to decorate the ground! (Like this adorable tutorial from A Practical Wedding.) Baby themed stencils seemed too perfect!
We weren’t sure exactly when they’d be coming home, so spray paint seemed like a better (long-lasting) option. As long as we kept it in the grass, my brother-in-law could just mow it away as it grew!
Well the plan was a success! Thanks to lots of friends and some extra supplies including crepe paper (and a few forks), we decorated their house so baby Lily had her very own party when she arrived!
As far as the stencil, I found some old election signs my dad had and free-handed the shape and then cut them out. Cardboard or poster board would also work great.
I wonder what other occasions I could decorate someone’s lawn for? Graduation parties, weddings, showers, birthdays. So many good ideas!
